The Comment - How To Get Free Traffic

Let’s all admit it - we want more traffic. Some of us have the funds to embark on expensive ad campaigns but most of don’t. If you are one of the majority of bloggers who is looking for a way to get some more traffic without paying a penny, read on.
The comment. So simple, so small, but used properly can help generate some traffic around your site. I can almost positively say that this simple form of advertising won’t get you thousands of visits or hundreds of unique visitors, instead it will give you an extra nudge at times when you need support the most.
Ok, so how does it work? Very easy - just get out and comment on other blogs in your niche. Simple as that. If you find an article you thought was interesting, go ahead and tell the author so. When hundreds of people are reading that same article over the next few days, they will also see your comment. Sometimes they may be intrigued to visit your blog. To help get people intrigued, make your comments funny, brilliant, informational, or opinionated.
Personally, with about 10 different comments I have brought over 120 visits. Yes, about 12 visits per comment. So think of it like this: If you make 2 comments per day on 10 different blogs, thats 20 comments. It shouldn’t take you more than an hour or so to do. If each of those comments brings your an average of 5 visits (we’ll be conservative here), that’s 100 visits per day. Multiply this over the course of a few months and you have some impressive traffic stats and it all started from some comments.
Of course, like most things, this should not be your main source of traffic. Your main supply of visits should be from your content. After all, what good is 100 visits via comments if you don’t have any quality information to show those visitors? No good, that’s what. So just keep in mind that commenting should be considered a small stream of traffic while your content and various other advertising techniques should be your main river.
So practice what I preach and leave a comment with some criticisms and critiques!

Yes indeed, I have found comments to bring a nice trickle of folks back to me. Oftentimes, I might see some traffic from a site I commented on some time back. If it is not one I visit regularly it can be a nice reminder to go check it out again and see if there is perhaps something new to perk my interest.
As for my site(s), I have recently begun turning off the nofollow on my comments. There is no traffic to speak of anyway right now but it is an experiment of interest to me.
