I just installed this insanely cool firefox plugin PicLens.

I can’t lie, this has got to be one of slickest plugins I’ve ever seen. Essentially PicLens turns your browser into a 3D picture viewing environment. Right now, PicLense is compatible with Google Images, Flickr, Deviant Art, Yahoo, Facebook, and a few others.

What’s really incredible is how seamless the plugin works. After you install, the changes can be seen immediately. For example, I installed PicLens, went to Google Images, and searched ‘iPhone.’ I got millions of results. With just a click of a button, Google Images turned into something like this:

What is really nifty is how well this plugin is implemented with the track pads found on all Macs. When I side scroll, the pictures turn sideways and I “glide” down the rows of images. Scroll up, and I zoom in on the pictures. Scroll out, and I am presented with a large display filled with thumbnails of iPhones.

Better yet, you can click on a picture to zoom in full screen. From there, you are presented with the link to the website in which the picture is located.

I have a lot more exploring to do with this plugin, but I have already tested it on Flickr, Deviant Art, Facebook, and Google and everything works beautifully. While this plugin is not a productivity plugin, or anything world-changing, it is still a beautiful, aesthetically pleasing, and original way to view pictures online like never before.
