Elite Video - Calling For Your Feedback!

Video In A New Light

As promised, here is the preview of the up and coming Elite Video theme. I have for you three different designs for three different pages of the theme, so that you can get a better feel for how the design will look. For this design I’ve taken a much more “2.0″ type look that I think works well with the video idea. I also focused a lot on the actual content itself - videos and the way they are placed.

This theme is still in the design stages, no coding has taken place yet, so please feel free to give me your feedback - good or bad. I look forward to hearing what you all have to think of the theme and what you like, don’t like, or what you think would be a neat addition!

Calvin - Haha thanks a bunch. I hope you like it. And yes, it will not be a free theme - sorry! Thanks for dropping a comment though, much appreciated.

Daniel - We can definitely work with a few color schemes on the theme as well - thanks for the tip!

looks good. i like the clean look, and yet without the over-used w2.0 glossiness.

my only suggestion is to shrink the comment avatar is a bit. if the blog gets so many comments, it may look a bit overwhelming. also large avatars look weird when the comment is only 1 line long. this is my personal opinion of course.

    good work.

For some reason when I read this page I was thinking it was a video of your new theme with you browsing it and showing off what it has to offer. So when I clicked on the single video page I was a bit confused :D

Anyway, it looks pretty sweet. Another great design.

    wow, that’s really lovely!
the search box is yummy, and the navigation is clear and consistent and it would definately be useful for a video blogger, or maker.
An improvement would be: be careful that the layout isn’t too similar to other websites, I did think ‘Apple homepage’ when I saw it. I mean it’s not exactly like it, but…oh! I don’t really know what I’m getting at, I’m trying to be helpful I swear! :D
One thought, where would the blog owner’s title/logo go?
I hope that made some sort of sense!

@JY Valid point. What we will probably do is make the size of the gravatar customizable. For example, right now, with the Elite Theme, buyers can choose what pixel width they want the gravatars to be.

@Gary Thanks a lot - sorry to confuse you! Ha!

@Billy I hear what you are saying when you say that it reminds you of the Apple home page. The nav bar is very similar to some of the interior areas of the page on Apple.com now that I look back on it. Is this a good or a bad thing? Who knows :P Thanks for the comment though!

@Alexandre Are you asking if I am going to put a chat room on the video theme or on elitebydesign.com? And it should be released soon - no price yet though. Thanks!

@Brian I gues it could be good AND bad, you don’t want to loose (imaginary) points for having a similar look to apple’s on the theme, but then again the nav bar is beautifal and simple, so … well I guess its hard to make a descision about whether its good or bad but I think its good much more than its bad. ;)

First thought was, love the categories navigation bar - it’s really sound. I did think that if you have a lot of categories, you might like to have a down arrow somewhere in there so the user can drop down a panel showing all the categories at once.

Are you sure you’ve left a lot of room for the videos titles - might these be too long for the space provided?

    It’s good work, well done.

Personally I’m not a big fan of putting the category links across the very top of the screen. I would suggest placing it under the main video (at least on the front page). It also will make for a cleaner look if you decide to use drop-down menu as suggested by the last poster.

    Just my two cents :-)

    Looks very nice, good style.
But the shadow is a bit overdone and i would place the navigation bar lower to make it easier to read, right now it is on the upper part of the screen (the part on wich most people dont like too look. You could place some graphic there but i am not sure about that.

@Billy - I agree, however I think I will leave it. I feel that it works well and fits in with the theme.

@Web Design Glasgow - Good point. The video titles will just split into two lines if it is too long. Also, for the categories, we have a horizontal slider that users can navigate through to find more categories. But perhaps a dropdown that showed them all at once could be helpful - thanks for the point.

@Sandy - Points well taken. I’ll work on the category bar and see what works the best. We may also be able to put in an option to move the category bar around :)

@Nutral - Thank you. What shadow are you referencing? And the way things are set up, the users logo will go above the navigation, thus pushing the navigation bar lower down on the screen.
