After writing yesterday’s post about comment zone design, I felt that I hadn’t really offered enough inspiration into the field. 15 sites just isn’t enough to get a grasp on the endless possibilities that lay out there when it comes to comment zone design. That’s why today I want to showcase 15 more creative and original comment zones. I chose these specific examples based on typography, organization, color, information placement, image use, and readability. I hope these will inspire you to tidy up your comment zone and make it better for both you and your readers. Enjoy!
Did I miss yours? Drop a comment and let me know! I’d be glad to add your to the list.

what are other designers’ thoughts on displaying avatar in the comment section? pros ‘n cons?
i feel if a site has a lot of regular commenters, then it facilitate the community feel.
however my personal taste is not to display them. especially when the number of random commenters far outweighs regular commenters, you’d have a bunch same looking icons in the comment section, very distracting imo.

@JY – Let me do a post on that – thanks for the idea. Personally, I like the gravatars. Especially on other blogs that I read. I have come to be able to recognize most of my favorite bloggers’ avatars and it helps me pick and choose which comments I want to read.
On the other side of that, of course, is that the hundreds of commenters without gravatars leave the comment section feeling “incomplete.”
Either way, I think that the images help to clean up the comment section and help keep everything organized and scannable.
By the way, did you get my email a few days ago?

Some interesting and unique layouts there, I particularly like the bubble effect which fits pretty well with the whole idea of comments.
It was suprising to see one of my comments appearing in one of the screenshots, what a coincidence!

I think that a a good example of the gravatars is that Outlaw Design one. I think the fact that the avatars turn out so large is partly why. Adds a little more ‘community’ feel when you see better pictures of the community.. and gives it more of a message board feel. They kind of go hand in hand with helping each other, IMO.

Especially, when you see people commenting and interacting with your blog
