Change In Direction For Elite By Design

After giving much thought to the direction that Elite By Design is heading, I decided to do a little “blog cleanup” and really evaluate my goals and intentions.
Freelancing
Today I removed the “freelancing” tag from my sub header and site title and replaced it with “photoshop”. I think that over the last 3 months I have become more devoted to the graphic arts, web design community than the freelancing community. Elite By Design will be a better web design and Photoshop blog rather than freelancing for 2 reasons. First, I am a better artist than I am a freelancer. Second, I will be able to reach out to more people and help more individuals if I share my Photoshop tips and tricks.
Goals
We all set goals as we watch our blogs grow and develop. Some of us dream of hitting that massive subscriber count, raking in a load of traffic, receiving a certain number of comments, etc. While all of those things are nice and definitely big motivators when it comes to managing Elite By Design, I think I want to set some more personal goals between myself and my readers.
First, I want to branch out my name and start advertising. I want to utilize as much empty ad space out there that I can. The more readers I can get the better. The more I can assert myself in both the Wordpress and web design communities, the better. My goal is to have Elite By Design become recognized as a place to learn the latest methods of blogging and designing. To do this, I need to make the investment of advertising in order to get my name out there.
My second goal is to learn how to code a Wordpress theme. My ‘8 Hour Theme’ will be my first Wordpress endeavor. I don’t expect the journey to be easy, in fact I know that learning the motions will be extremely hard and time consuming. However, I know that in the end that the knowledge to code a beautiful theme will be so much more beneficial than I can comprehend right now. This is the goal I look forward to reaching the most. I am excited to see my creations being used by hundreds of people worldwide and having Elite By Design become recognized as a high quality theme creator.
Third, and most importantly, I am going to reach out to my readers more than I am doing now. The old saying, you must give before you receive, is my motivation. I know that I need to help people before people help me, so I may as well start today. I have already made some really great friends through Elite By Design, I can only look forward to expanding my community of readers and friends. I hope that I can truly help my readers and in return will be helped back.
On A Side Note
On a side note, as some of you may have noticed, I made a few changes to the blog over the last day or so. First, I increased the size of the tediously small font to a much more manageable size. Now Elite By Design is much more reader friendly. I also updated my community section in the sidebar with a link to my site redesign post. I plan on updating this section on a regular basis to keep the community up to date on Elite By Design’s happenings in the blogosphere. Keep checking there to see the updates!
In The End
I think that Elite By Design is headed in the right direction, but it can be better. I am making these changes to help get the blog on track and progress faster than ever. This is a good time to thank everyone who has helped me thus far in this online journey and I look forward to working with you again.
Regards,
Brian
Brian, I see you really thought this through. I always loved your posts in freelancing myself, they are as inspiring just like all the rest you wrote. Maybe keep them aside for those who think about freelancing?
Anyway, I’m curious to see how your work here progresses, and if there’s anything I can do to help just let me know.
Maybe one day when you know Wordpress theming to the core, I can convince you to start learning to create a Drupal theme
I’m on MSN as boomstein@telenet.be just in case.
Brian I personally think you have made a good decision. as you know I love your Photoshop work, in fact we need to get together soon and add to your bank account.
@Boomstein - Maybe I can write a freelancing post every now and then
I’ll definitely be keeping in touch with you, thanks for the comment.
@Don - Thanks a lot. Email me anytime and we’ll get to work!
Brian,
Your approach to refocus sounds great and very well thought out. I look forward to watching where you’re headed. If I can ever be helpful, please let me know.
